Viceroy Decorator Now Designing Clothes

viceroy Miami

Kelly Wearstler, decorator of the gorge Viceroy hotels (that's the Viceroy Miami, above), is branching out and designing a line of clothes. “So much of my influence in interior design comes from fashion, and everything relating to fashion, from jewelry, which can be reminiscent of sculpture, to the colors and silhouettes that I find in clothing. This feels like a natural evolution,” Wearstler told WWD.

The collection includes dresses, tops, jackets, skirts and more.

What to Wear on a Beach Vacation

Today's guest post comes to us from Jacey Duprie of Singer22.com.

Calling all trendy travelers!!! It's been a brutal winter this year and I'm sure you're all looking for an exotic escape to heat things up. Not sure where to head? Check out JSG's Beach Week destination ideas.

Packing for a tropical destination should be easy breezy and with these key pieces, you won't need much more than sandals and a floppy hat (with a margarita in tow) to get into vacation mode. From top right: The Torn by Ronny Kobo Mini Skirt is a perfect item for day or night. Paired with a fun tee or button up blouse you can wear this skirt with flats during the day or dress it up with heels. Nicole Richie knows her style and she has designed a perfect Winter Kate Jacket that is great to use as a cover-up or light jacket for a breezy night. It can also been worn over this adorable black Mark & James by Badgley Mischka Dress  that is sure to get plenty of wear on your trip. And because everyone knows you're supposed to wear nautical on vacay, this Joie Top (center) is a winner in our book for being comfy and stylish.

Swimsuits are the most important resor attire you can invest in because you will be spending most of your time soaking in the sun. Invest in a bikini you will be proud to wear and that has great color and fun prints. Above are options from:
Mara Hoffman
Despi Swimwear as seen on Kourtney Kardashian and Leann Rimes
L*Space
Alexis Bikini's and cover-ups

Wherever the destination may be, treat yourself to some key items that will get you in the vacation mood. You can find more Resort Attire here.

Hangover Cures

coffee

According to a new study, plain old aspirin and coffee is the best way to cure a hangover. The scientist at Thomas Jefferson University in Philadelphia got rats drunk and then tested what cured their headaches and what didn't. (We're picturing rats lying in bed with tiny ice packs on their foreheads.)

We have our own new favorite hangover cure (for a doozy of a hangover we had after our annual girls' night out). This one comes courtesy of Joe, a waiter at P.J. Clarke's in Washington, D.C. He recommends combining hot chamomile tea with ginger ale--a somewhat odd combo that surpisingly worked!

Emergency Skin Repair

June Jacobs hydrating masque

We're fresh off a plane from New Orleans, where we had a blast drinking and eating and eating and drinking. While all the food and cocktails were delish, after all the salt, sugar and booze combined with a plane flight, we were feeling rather prune-like by the time we walked through the front door. Enter the June Jacob's Intensive Age Defying Hyrdating Masque. Sweet almond and apricot kernel oils give it that extra hydrating boost. After using it and taking a long shower, we're starting to feel a little more human again. Now if only we could figure out how to drop the 25 pounds we gained this weekend as easily!

For extra dry skin, Jacobs recommends applying a thin layer before bedtime, "you'll wake up with baby soft skin," she says.

Tumi Spring Collection

Hope in Tuscany with her Tumi

We love our Tumi carry on bags and though we've only had them a year or so; we've dragged them all over the world already. (That's Hope in Tuscany above.) This spring Tumi is introducing its first line of sunglasses inspired by famous bridges and their balance of form and function using materials including leather, aluminum, titanium and stainless steel.

Tumi also introduced their new Bravo collection of day bags this Spring. Our pick is the unstructured Kessler Large Duffel in Linen which attaches easily to our Tumi system (for extra packing space) or could be used alone for a quick trip.

The Dream in New York City

Flanked by Broadway and 7th Avenue, on West 55thst, is a hotel which in one way or another is a little bit unique - unique in an incredibly nice manner. This is the Dream Hotel New York.

Distinct considering that not a lot of hotels offer a 2-floor aquariums, or a enormous figurine of Catherine The Great. Dream in New York has that as well as more. This is not sculptured deco, rather it is beautiful simple and fashionable. Friendly, stylishly suited team meet you as you enter the lobby and 14 suites and 200 - ahead of setting out to the shops of the Big Apple. Subject to your flavor in colors, the decor of the suites or rooms are different. They are all made of white and a slight blue neon-blue lighting below the bed. Do not be terrified of the desks with glass tops, they're stronger than they you may think.

On the negative side, the white decorations underlines even the minutest wear.

You will find some facilities in the room or suite but, in the case of internet connection it is pay-as-you go. Plasma TV affixed on the wall offering restricted free to air stations. The suites and rooms are just tailor-made specially for lounging specifically on the bed of feathers and as an additional bonus, a fluffy Monarch bathrobe.

Non-smoking rooms are available just like in-room safes and mini-bars.

The key card gives you a gentle souvenir of eateries are available and a hint of shopping tips. Dream New York has a number of marvelous bargains like a courtesy yoga and meditation sessions at the Chopra Deepak Center not forgetting a gym pass to one of the local facilities. Valet and street parking are on hand. Internal dining and partying is available for you at Ava Lounge - sky high on the 15th floor which has great scene; or " RmFifty5" and its French provincial decorations. For Pizza lovers, Serafina Broadway gives some of the top narrow-crust crispy pizzas in town. For a comfortable, expert atmosphere, you will find it all at The Crystal Room.

Five-star treat is the lot of this Vikram Chatwal owned hotel. So, no need to dream it, check it out and experience the Dream.

Concierge Confidential

Concierge Confidential

We've always recommended the hotel concierge as a fantastic resource on your vacation. They can tell you where there best steakhouse is and how to get a table or where the best clubs are in town and how to get your name on a list. New York concierge Michael Fazio divulges plenty of tricks of his trade in his new book Concierge Confidential. Fazio spent years working at the New York InterContinental where he learned how to score the best tickets and reservations in town, filled a tub with hot fudge for a romantically inclined guest (don't try this at home!) and some other NC-17 rated requests. Included are insider tips and entertaining stories he's gathered through years working with the rich and famous. Available on Amazon.com

Subdued Elegance

Now that Margaret Russel is the editor-in-chief of Architectural Digest, looks like I'll be subscribing once again!  This Napa Valley home from the latest A.D. issue looks like a nice place to be right about now.  I love the cream and white tones with the contrast of dark finishes and very little colour...so soothing.

Beach Week Day 5: Soho Beach House Miami

Soho Beach House Miami

The recently opened Soho Beach House Miami is everything its sister properties in New York, West Hollywood, Berlin and the originals in Britain are: chic, fun, and exclusive. We never turn down an invite to the members-only club in the Meat Packing District (and neither would we at the Beach House); but the easiest way to get in is to book a room in one of the hotel's fifty bedrooms- then you have access to both pool areas, the beach club, and the rest of the private lounges.

Soho Beach House Miami

Also in the Soho Beach House, the Cowshed spa offers everything from massages and facials, to blowouts and manis. Cecconi's Italian restaurant is open to the public; but doesn't give you access to the after hours areas of the Beach House. Hotel rates begin at $400, memberships begin at $900/year. Sigh.

Win Olay Professional Pro-X Advanced Cleansing System

Our fab dermatologist Dr. Doris Day was on the Dr. Oz show earlier this week talking about the newest ways to get younger looking skin. One of the products she recommends is the new Olay Professional Pro-X Exfoliating Renewal Cleansing System. (Click on the photo to see the video.) Dr. Day likes it because it makes washing your face every night easier—and studies show that's something 50 percent of us fail to do on a daily basis. Cleansing is an important step, because it allows your moisturizer and other anti-aging products to absorb better.

The handheld device has a brush that rotates to clean and exfoliate skin and has been shown to clean skin 6 times better than by basic cleansing alone. JSG is partnering with Olay to giveaway 5 cleaning systems. To win your own lay Professional Pro-X Advanced Cleansing System do one of the following by Monday at 11:59 PM EST:

1. Leave a comment below telling us how often you wash your face.

2. "Like" The Jet Set Girls on Facebook and leave your face washing info on the wall.

3. Follow us on Twitter (We're @JSGAnne and @JSGHope) and tweet: Follow @JSGAnne and JSG Hope and RT to enter to win an Olay Cleansing system. #giveaway #freebie

Beach Week Day 4: Fishing in the Abacos

woman fishing
Here's a trip worth planning ahead for: The Reel Sassy Girl's Weekend at the Abacos Beach Resort in the Bahamas, April 29-May 1. Fishing's not usually our thing (we still have flashbacks to the dull fishing trip we were forced to take with an ex), but we chatted with Reel Sassy co-owner Kim Ewing (that's her above) and she convinced us that it's worth giving the sport a second look.

abacos

Kim grew up in Florida and started fishing off of the causeway as a way to spend time with friends on the weekends in high school. She only got into deep sea fishing after meeting her now hubby a sport fishing boat captain. Kim promises there are no worms or bait fish involved with deep sea fishing—it's all about using lures.

As for the allure of fishing itself, Kim says:
"It's not the fishing, it’s the catching—hearing the line zing, knowing you have something on your line, but not knowing what’s on the other end."
Ready to give it a try yourself? The Reel Sassy weekend includes two nights at the Abacos Beach Resort, airfare from Ft. Lauderdale, an opening reception, breakfast everyday and a day trip to Hope Town in the Bahamas. Prices start at $549 per person. Email info@reelsassy.com for more details.

Beach Week Bikini

You can't go to the beach without a banging new bikini. Our favorite from the resort collections is this patchwork embroidered Missoni bikini—it's sexy in a subtle way. Layer on a Vix snake print caftan and pair with Reef leather flip flops and a versatile Tory Burch Nylon Tory Tote. The versatile look works at all of our beach week destinations so far.

The Perfect Riad

As it's pouring ice outside here in NYC, I'm thinking about warmer climates once again.  I continue my search for places to stay during my Morocco trip in Spring, and I came across this stunner in Marrakesh.  The over-sized planters in the outdoor space makes a dramatic statement.  The patina window shutters and wood work though out creates a nice contrast to the concrete floors and walls.  This perfect Riad will suit me just fine!

Beach Week Day 3: Countdown to Cancun

Live Aqua Cancun
Cancun gets a bad rap as a spring break destination that you should only go to if you want to compete in a wet T-shirt contest or break a record for tequila shots, but as Hope learned it depends on when you go and where you stay. Ready to test the waters? Enter VH1's Countdown to Cancun giveaway that celebrates Virgin America's inaugural flight to the Mexican beach resort.

Included in the prize is a 3-night stay at the new Live Acqua Cancun, a 371-room resort. The hotel is an all inclusive with restaurant choices ranging from Mediterranean to Asian to New American to Mexican. (Why you wouldn't indulge in guacamole and salsa everyday of your trip is beyond us.) It has a spa and a pool valet who hands out snacks, magazines and fully loaded iPods to borrow and is located in the main hotel zone.

cancun hotel

The only bad news: Virgin America is currently only flying to Cancun from the west coast, including Los Angeles, San Francisco and Seattle. Here's hoping flights from the midwest and east coast start soon! Enter to win on CountdowntoCancun.com.
